What the ohio overtime calculator works out
Most US states follow the federal rule: overtime after 40 hours in a week. Ohio sets overtime by the workweek, with no daily limit. This calculator adds up one week of hours and pays the hours past 40 at time and a half.
How it is calculated
Add up the week
Add the hours worked on each day of the workweek. Every day counts the same; there is no daily limit.
Split at the weekly limit
The first 40 hours are regular hours. Hours past 40 in the week are overtime at time and a half.
Worked example
At $20 an hour: Monday 10 hours and four days of 9 hours make 46 hours. The first 40 are regular, the last 6 are overtime. Pay is 40 x $20 = $800, plus 6 x $30 = $180: $980 for the week.
Know the hours before you pay them
Wrkbase records hours as people work: attendance logs sign-in, breaks and sign-off for each day, and a task timer starts when a task moves to In progress. Both are on the Free plan, for up to 5 people.

When is overtime owed in Ohio?
Ohio requires time and a half, one and one-half times the wage rate, for hours worked over 40 in one work week, except for employers grossing less than $150,000 per year.
Does every Ohio employer have to pay overtime?
The state poster excepts employers grossing less than $150,000 per year from the rule, so check whether that applies to the business. For everyone else it is time and a half past 40 hours in a work week, and Ohio sets no daily limit.
Does this cover every case?
No. It applies the weekly rule to hourly pay. Exemptions, alternative work schedules, and rules for particular industries or a seventh day of work in a row are not applied. Check the state labor office page linked above.
Does Wrkbase calculate overtime pay?
Daily overtime, yes, on the Team plan. Hours past a daily threshold you set are paid at one multiplier, 1.5 times by default. It does not apply weekly thresholds, double time or any state rule, so use this calculator for the full amount and add the difference to the pay run as a bonus.
