What the timesheet template works out
A timesheet template is a blank weekly record of when someone started, stopped and took a break, with the hours added up at the bottom. The CSV on this page has a row for each day, works out the hours worked from the start, end and unpaid break, and totals the week and the gross pay. It also has a line for the employee and one for a manager to approve.

How it is calculated
Fill in the week
Type the employee name and the week starting date, then the start and end time for each day worked. The unpaid break is set to 30 minutes; change it per day.
Let the sheet add it up
Hours worked = end - start - unpaid break. The total is the sum of the days, and gross pay is the total hours x the hourly rate you type in.
Worked example
At $20 an hour, with 8, 7.5, 8, 8 and 6.5 hours worked Monday to Friday: 8 + 7.5 + 8 + 8 + 6.5 = 38 hours, and 38 x 20 = $760.00 gross for the week.
Skip the template: let the timesheet fill itself in
Wrkbase builds each week from attendance sign-in and sign-off, so nobody types start and end times. A manager approves the week, and approved hours feed an hourly pay line.

What should a timesheet template include?
The employee name, the week starting date, the start and end time for each day, any unpaid break, the hours worked each day, the weekly total, the hourly rate and the gross pay. If you keep signed records, add a line for the employee and one for the manager who approved the week.
How do I use the timesheet template in Excel or Google Sheets?
Download the CSV and open it in either program. Type times like 9:00 and 17:30 in the start and end columns, change the break if it is not 30 minutes, and type the hourly rate. The hours, the total and the gross pay fill in from those cells.
Does the template handle overtime?
No. It pays every hour at the same rate. For hours over a daily or weekly limit, use the overtime calculator and add the two amounts.
How long should I keep timesheets?
In the US, the Department of Labor says employers must keep payroll records for at least three years and the time cards used to compute wages for two years. Your state may require longer. Keep each signed timesheet with the pay record it supported.
Should I use a timesheet template or timesheet software?
A template is enough for a handful of people. It starts to slip when hours live in one file and pay in another, because every pay period someone copies numbers across by hand.
Does Wrkbase have timesheets?
Yes, on the Team and Enterprise plans. Each week fills in from attendance sign-in and sign-off, a person can correct a day by giving a reason, and a manager approves the week or sends it back. Approved hours are what an hourly pay line pays.
