What the hourly to salary calculator works out

Converting hourly pay to a salary means working out what an hourly rate adds up to over a full year. The answer depends on two things besides the rate: how many hours are worked each week, and how many weeks of the year are paid.

The formula

How it is calculated

  1. Find the weekly pay

Weekly pay = hourly rate x hours per week.

  2. Multiply by the weeks worked

Yearly pay = weekly pay x weeks per year. Monthly pay = yearly pay / 12.

  3. Worked example

    $25 an hour for 40 hours is $1,000 a week. Over 52 weeks that is $52,000 a year, or $4,333.33 a month.

Pay salaried and hourly staff from one place

Wrkbase pay runs handle both: a fixed salary, or an hourly rate multiplied by the hours on the attendance record. Payroll is on the Team plan. It tracks pay; it does not file tax or send direct deposits.

Questions

Good to know before you rely on it

Why 52 weeks and not 50?

There are 52 weeks in a year, so 52 assumes every week is paid, including holidays and time off. If some weeks are unpaid, enter the number of paid weeks instead.

How do I go the other way, from salary to hourly?

Divide the yearly salary by the hours worked in a year. $52,000 over 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 52,000 / 2,080 = $25 an hour.

Does the hourly to salary calculator take off tax?

No. Every figure is gross pay. Tax and deductions depend on where the person lives and their own circumstances.
