Approve

Balances on top, your requests and your team’s approvals side by side.

A simpler way

A chain of steps, replaced by one move.

The old way

  1. Email the manager
  2. Wait for a reply
  3. HR updates a sheet
  4. Adjust the balance
  5. Add it to the calendar

Five hand-offs, and the balance is wrong the first time one is missed.

With Wrkbase

Approve

Approved. Balance updated and added to the shared calendar.

The approval, the balance and the calendar entry are one action, so they cannot disagree.

How it works

Start to finish,in plain steps.

  1. 1

    Request time off

Pick a leave type and the dates. Sick, casual and unpaid are built in, and you can add your own.

  2. 2

    Approve in one click

A manager approves or rejects from one list, or approves everything pending at once.

  3. 3

    Balance and calendar update

The days come off the balance and the leave appears on the shared calendar.

Why it holds up

Careful by design,not by policy.

One transaction, not three separate writes

Approving a request updates its status, deducts the balance, and creates the calendar event inside a single database transaction, so a crash mid-approval can't leave the balance wrong.

Unpaid leave has no ceiling

Sick and casual leave carry a yearly allocation. Unpaid deliberately doesn't, so it can't be blocked by a balance that was never meant to cap it.

Some types skip the approval step

A leave type can be configured to auto-approve, running the same balance-and-calendar transaction immediately instead of waiting on a manager.

Types you configure, and types you add

Allocation days and whether approval is required are yours to set per type from Company Settings. Add your own types next to the three built in, and archive one you no longer need: past requests keep it.

Everything included

Everything in Leave & calendar. The full list.

If it is not here, the product does not do it yet.

Leave types and balances3

  • Sick (10 days, auto-approved by default), Casual (25 days, needs approval), Unpaid (no cap)
  • Change the yearly allocation and approval rule per type
  • Balance cards per type: allocated, used, and remaining

Requests and approvals4

  • Request with a type, dates, and a reason
  • Cancel your own request while it is pending
  • Approve or reject with a reason, or approve all at once
  • Approvers notified of new requests, requesters notified of the decision

The shared calendar5

  • Month view of meetings, deadlines, holidays, leave, and custom events
  • Approved leave added automatically
  • Task due dates shown as deadlines
  • Company holidays, copied to next year in one step
  • Anyone can add an event; only its creator can edit it

Limits

What it does not do.

Better to know now than after you have moved your team in.

  • Leave is counted in calendar days, weekends included, and there are no half-days.

  • Approved leave can't be cancelled, and balances are only checked at approval.

  • Unpaid leave doesn't reduce pay: leave never changes a pay run.

  • No recurring events and no Google or Outlook calendar sync.

Questions

Worth knowing before you switch

Is this the same thing as PTO tracking?

Yes, PTO and leave are the same feature here, just different names for it. Sick, casual, and unpaid leave each carry their own allocation and approval rule, deducted from a balance the moment a request is approved.

Can I add custom leave types, like maternity or bereavement?

Yes. Sick, casual, and unpaid leave come built in, and anyone who manages leave can add more in Company Settings, such as maternity, bereavement, or study leave, each with its own days per year and approval rule. A type you no longer need can be archived: it disappears from new requests, and past requests keep it.

Do weekends count against a leave balance?

Yes, today they do. A request is counted in calendar days from start to end, including any weekend in between, so a Friday-to-Monday request uses four days. Book around weekends if that matters for your team. The monthly attendance report, by contrast, leaves weekends and company holidays out of working days.

Is the calendar only for leave?

No. It shows meetings, task deadlines, company holidays, approved leave, and any event someone adds, in one month view the whole team shares.

A leave balance you never have to double-check by hand.
