What the meeting cost calculator works out
The cost of a meeting is the time of everyone in it. Multiplying the number of people by what an hour of their time costs, and by how long the meeting runs, puts a price on it. Repeated every week, a small figure becomes a large one.
How it is calculated
Price one meeting
Cost of one meeting = people x hourly cost x (minutes / 60).
Multiply by how often it happens
Cost per year = cost of one meeting x times per week x working weeks per year.
Worked example
Six people at $40 an hour for 60 minutes is $240 a meeting. Once a week for 48 weeks is $11,520 a year.
Replace the status meeting with a status you can see
In Wrkbase, moving a task to a new status posts to the team's activity feed and updates the board for everyone. It has no meeting-cost feature; it removes one reason to hold the meeting.
Good to know before you rely on it
What should I use as the hourly cost?
A simple estimate is yearly pay divided by hours worked in a year. For a fuller figure that includes taxes and benefits, work out the cost per hour with the employee cost calculator first.
Does the meeting cost calculator say a meeting is not worth it?
No. It only prices the time. A meeting that costs $240 and saves a week of rework is cheap. The number is there so the comparison can be made.
Why 48 working weeks?
It leaves out roughly four weeks of holiday when a weekly meeting would not happen. Change it to match your own year.
